Hospitality refers to the relationship between a guest and a host, wherein the host receives the guest with goodwill, including the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers. Louis, chevalier de Jaucourt describes hospitality in the Encyclopédie as the virtue of a great soul that cares for the whole universe through the ties of humanity.[4]

Hospitality be fucking awesome!

Ok so lets talk about this. How do you be awesome.

One of the first things our members should do is fill out their Profile. This goes for Host and Guest. It gives our community a way to know eachother a little better. We are more than just people visiting a website. We are sharing our world with each other. You can decide how much or little information you want to include in your profile, but a short bio, a picture and some social media will go a long way! If you are a host this is a great way to show people you are not just some shop. You are a real person.

So now that you have your profile filled out, lets talk about being a hospitable host! Lets start at the beginning, your listings. It is always best to under promote and over deliver. If you are listing a 20 year old RV that is clean but not perfect, list it that way. It is a lot better to have a guest think ” this is a lot better than I expected”. Your goal as a host is to help guest have an amazing experience. Many of your guest have never used a service like this, some have never even been camping. So think of little ways you can make the experience better for them. Also you need to expect that some issues will come up from time to time, the boat will not start, the A/C went out on the trailer etc… this is your time to show off what a great host you are.

Lets look at two ways a problem can play out:

Problem- Flat tire on a trailer. This can happen to anyone at any time. Here is two ways a host can handle it.

  1. The guest calls you and says the tire is flat on your trailer. You say- do you know how to change it? Or the spare is on the back or even I’ll call a service.  Here is the thing, you just ruined the guest vacation. They are paying to rent an experience not a trailer. At this point all they can think about is the broken trailer you rented them! This is going to end poorly! For everyone!!!
  2. The guest calls you and says the tire is flat on your trailer. You say ok no problem, let’s figure this out. Where are you located? I’m going to get someone there right away to take care of it. I know you are trying to enjoy the vacation so lets not let a flat tire ruin it! While you are waiting it is a good time for a picnic, or a hike etc, depending on the location. Get someone (or yourself) there ASAP! And Keep checking up on the guest to see if they need anything. Offer to order a pizza be creative. This guest is going to be amazed at how much you care, tell friends and family all about it and how they should rent from you! This will end well! For everyone!!!

One more little point to think about, you are letting someone use your very expensive equipment. When they see how much you care, they will care!

We are all in this world together. Lets make the most of it! Treat others the way you would want your mother to be treated!

Happy Camping
